T'was the Sunday before Christmas

T'was the Sunday before Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring, but me. It's kind of hard for me to believe Christmas is this Friday already. It feels like it was just Thanksgiving, Why does it feel like everything is happening faster and faster lately? Is it because I'm getting older or is the world it's self going around faster? Whatever is the reason it's making it harder for me to enjoy things anymore. Speaking of change, the climate change meeting they had in Copenhagen. In my opinion it was a waste of time and money. It does not matter what they decide they want to do, the planet it's self is going to do what it wants to do. The human race has done allot of things to damage this place we call home but, people have to realize that this a living entity of it's own feel will. It is going through a change of it's own and there is nothing the human race can do to stop the changes that are happening more and more. Just have t

Babble time

It's been awhile since I've posted because.......I guess I really didn't have to much extra to say that other people were not already saying. Like the things coming to light about Tiger Woods. It was bound to happen sooner or later. It's time he step back for awhile. To be as out in the public eye the way he has for so long has got to be the most frustrating thing to live with. He really had no childhood like someone else we all knew and is no longer among the living. Lets hope he does not go completely down that path. The weather. We had our first snow storm of the season. We got about 11 inches here. It was sudden and fast. Now it's too cold. Wind chills of about 16 below zero. At least we will have a very white Christmas. I hate to say it but I was feeling a little bit of the holiday spirit today. I was allowing Christmas songs to bounce around my head and they made me feel a little brighter. I might do something this year I have not done in years. Go to th

As an old Farmer Sees It

Image
Well I hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine, was kind of quiet. I thinks that's a good thing. I didn't go and do any really big shopping. I'm just not a busy day kind of shopper. I do not like to feel rushed or pushed. Any way on Thanksgiving I went to my parents house. I eat just enough not to much but just enough so that I was comfortable. While I was there I got the old pictures. I've been going through them off and on all weekend. I was dividing them up into different groups so that when I really had time I could sit down and study some of them. I did throw some away. So that were ripped or just plain out of focus. Also the ones that were taken at funerals. To me that is very creepy. There were a few newspaper articles. Most of them I don't know why they were saved. I did find one that I think applies today. It was post in the Journal. As you can see there is no date but could have been written by someone today. If we had only listened to the old timers th

Happy Turkey Day

Happy Turkey day to all, at least the ones in the US. But happy day to others around the world. I kind of miss the old days. You know when there was snow on the ground this time of year. It just does not seam like the holidays around here without snow. It makes for a bad hunting season for most people. The husband has not even seen one deer yet. Most people are very lucky if they do. My mom last Saturday saw four deer in the neighbors yard. My parents live in town so I guess you know where the deer are hiding. My Dad was up at the family cabin and didn't see anything. One of the husbands brothers I guess has got 5 deer and his girlfriend has shot some too. His son has shot 5 and his girlfriend has shot 3.The sons sisters boyfriend has shot a few also. How? I don't know how they always seem to get so many every year. But they also have to find people who are willing to let them fill their tags for them. I'm really not very fond of those kind of hunters. That go out and sho

Old Pictures

Image
When my family and I were going through the old pictures and letters a couple of weeks ago I took a couple of the pictures. The one of the woman is my Grandmother when she was young in the 20's, I think. The one above, I'm not sure what it is. I think it might be Swedish written below but I'm not sure. I could be Finnish.I don't know who any of the people are or where it was taken but I just wanted to share. I plan on getting as many of the old pictures I can and hopefully posting them here from time to time. Most of them I have no idea who they are. My Dad knows a few but not all. It's always interesting seeing these kind of things from the past. Reading those old letters I'm learning things about my grandpa that I never knew. I just wish my aunt, when my grandma died, would not have put the letters from my grandma to grandpa before they were married, in her casket when she died. We will never know what was on them.

I'm not going Rogue

I've been hearing allot about this book that Sarah Palin wrote, and I will say I will not be one of those reading it. I have not liked her since the first time she opened her mouth when she was selected to be McCain's running mate. She does allot of talking but never really says anything. She talks in circles. At least I don't understand any point she is trying to make. And if this country ever decides she would be a good president I now the whole world will most definitely fall apart. If you thought Bush was bad she would be even worse. She will shoot first and maybe later decide to talk about things. She only wants to hear her own voice everywhere she goes. If I could talk to her I would tell her intimidation is not the way to get respect from others. If you want to get respect from others you must respect them also. Being a bully may work for awhile but it will all come crashing down around you so fast and so hard you will not know what hit you. This works for everyone.Ev

Saturday Morning thoughts and A poem for Grandpa

Boy has this been a week or what. The shootings in Texas and the other one in Florida. Plus the guy where  they found at least 11 bodies. Does it seam like more and more bad things are happening lately or are some things just coming to light all at once? The sad part is these kind of things are going to happen more and more. Why? There is allot of people going through things that are a whole lot more stressful because of the economy.People who lived during the great depression will know how bad it can really get. But how bad will it get this time? People want to blame Obama. Some the democrats. I blame it on greed not going unchecked as usual and the greedy don't like it. It's a very stressful time for all and we all have different ways to deal with it. Unfortunately too many people are choosing the most violent ways to deal with it. So many people have lost their jobs. So many people have lived way beyond their means for so long and now that the economy has taken a crap, they

Letters from a time gone by

A few day ago my aunt and uncle dropped off some old pictures and letters that belonged to my grandparents, at my parents house. I'm not sure who most of the people are but I think my dad is enjoying going through them and trying to figure out who they are. My mom would rather just throw them out or give them back to. They are very musty smelling.from being stuck in musty places for way to many years. There was also a good size box full of old letters that were sent to my grandpa. So far most of them are from women who wrote to him before he married my grandmother. What ever he wrote to her or she wrote to we will never know because when she died someone put those letters in her casket. She died in 1980. My grandpa died in 1985. The letters are all from the 1920's to the early 1930's. By reading some of the letters I think he was into some kind of writing club, more then likely looking for a wife. Some of the women were from close by. One was from Rib Lake. He lived by We

Small town girl visits the Big city

Last Friday I took a trip to Milwaukee with the oldest one to see a Kelly Clarkson concert. I enjoyed the concert very much. The oldest one had won something so she was given the chance to sing on stage with the band while they were doing their sound check. I never even knew she could sing or that she would ever have the guts to get on a stage and do anything. But she did. I did record it. I could post it here but it's not a very good recording and she won't let me hear the recording they made and gave to her. Someday I'll get it out of her or if she really ticks me off I will post the one I do have here. We also were given the chance to meet Kelly. And she is a hugger. As for me I think I look like a deer caught in the headlights.  She had a very good show. I enjoyed it very much. As for the rest of the trip, that is another story. Traveling with the oldest one can be a very tense time. She is 24 years old but like me does not look her age, she looks younger and is oft

Balloon Boy Hoax

There has been allot on the news lately about  a balloon and a little boy. I just want to ask, how dumb are people? To believe that a six year old boy was in that balloon. I could see that by watching how the balloon was flying that he was not in there. Have you ever seen Myth Busters? On one show they did one about the tale that a little girl was lifted up into the air when she grabbed a bunch of balloons. They proved that this was not possible by a small bunch of balloons but would have taken allot more just to get the weight of the child off the ground. They used a huge building to do this experiment. It was about three stories high or higher to do this in.I can't remember how many it did take to get the weight of a small child off the ground but when they were done it was the size of a hot air balloon. If you ask me this family knew it was not possible for that balloon to support the weight of their little boy. They wanted attention. I think they believe it was a way to get a

First snow of the year

Image
On Monday we got out first snow fall of the year. It's a little earlier then I wanted but who can argue with Mother Nature when she decides something. She does what she wants when she wants. Here are a few pictures of her early winter gifts to us. As you can see allot of trees still have their leaves on yet. Right now this snow is all melted and it might get into the 50's next week. Mother Nature has certainly been doing her best  to keep us on our toes. But I think I would rather have this snow then the problems they are having in California right now. Or even all those earth quakes that are happening.I just wonder what else she has in store for us.    Thought of the Day; "Raindrops are kisses from the skies."

Sunday Nonsence

I've had a quiet week, but I did work Saturday. That will be two Saturdays on the next check. But I also do not have to work this next Friday because they are going to start a new system at work and they  have to get things setup. I know boring. You really don't want to hear about this stuff. One of the interesting things that happened this week was on Friday over in Wausau a truck carrying molasses overturned and spilled molasses all over the road. Now that was a very sticky situation. No one was hurt, that is a good thing. It did make the downtown smell very sweet. Another thing this week is the weather. It snowed a little bit yesterday. Time to break out the winter jackets, already. I'm not sure I'm ready for winter yet. But all the signs are telling me it's going to be a long and cold winter. Remember that couple that was on trial for praying over their daughter instead of taking her to the doctor and she died from untreated diabetes. Well they were senten

Ramdom thoughts through the day

I just feel like rambling about all kinds of things today. These are some of the things that ran through my head today. October 1st. Where did the time go? Where did the summer go? As far as I can tell we had no summer here. It's already gotten so cool that we have gotten the wood stove going. More then likely is not that early for us to do it but I just feel like this year has just flown by. I guess the older you get the faster time flies. At this pace in another ten years it should feel like I just got out of bed by the time it's time to get back in. You know there are allot more earthquakes going on in the same area.  My heart goes out to all those who live in those areas. There could be more shaking going on here in the states or really anywhere. There also is allot more flooding going on all over the world. The earth is going through a change. In my opinion, people of the world should be getting ready for all the things that mother nature is going to throw at them inst

Hunting Tale

It's that time of the year, again. The start of the hunting seasons. The husband is a bow hunter, for deer that is. Every year he has some tale to tell about one that got away. This year is no different. There are usually many over all the seasons he hunts in. The first one just happened last night. He had been up in his tree stand and off in the distance he saw a deer, but he forgot the binoculars so he could not tell what it was. Well, as it started to get to dark to see right he climbed down from his tree stand and headed for the four wheeler. Along the path he drove, he went by a kind of a low spot that was not suppose to have anything that was dark looking in it. He stopped trying to figure out what it was. He thought bear. So for some reason he decided to start growling at it. It didn't move. He starting waving his arms while he growled at it. It didn't move. He tried to get louder at the growling while he waved his arms. Suddenly it slowly moved. It was a buck. A h

Our Trip up North

Image
Last week the husband and I went up north for a few days. Up north I mean to the upper peninsula of Michigan. We went to places like St. Ignace where we climbed Castle rock. It is on the north side of the bridge. This is view from the top over looking the bay. We then headed up to Sault Ste. Marie where we watched some big ships go through the locks. I forgot the camera at the motel. We would have loved to go into Canada but no pass ports. So we just looked across the locks into Canada. Some day I will get a pass port and be able to so I can say bin there done that. Another thing we went to was Oswalds Bear Ranch. It's the only bear ranch of it's kind in the US. They take in bears that have been rescued I think they were all cubs when they first arrive. There are about 29 there right now.  You can get your picture taken with a cub. There are two there right now. These bears are given the chance when it's around winter time to leave if they want but I think most stay.

Weekend ramblings

Sitting here on a nice quiet Saturday morning looking out the patio door, I was watching the mist that was hanging over the field slowly start to lift when the oldest one came upstairs and headed for the bathroom. She is usually not up this early because she works nights but her and the boy friend are going to a race today and she in a way does not want to go because it involves camping. She is not a camper. She wants to only sleep in her own bed and she hates the possibility of bugs. She is trying to find away to get out of it or take my car so she can leave when she wants to. But I need my car for the weekend. I told her she should have been honest to the boy, and said she didn't want to camp. It's only a couple of hours before he gets here to pick her up so we'll see what kind of excuse she can come up with to not camp. It's looking like it's going to be a nice weekend around here. Lots of sun, temps in the 70's. Today I will be heading up to the family ca

Pondering Kennedy and Kidnapping plus other things

Image
I've been pondering what exactly to ponder. There are so many things to ponder. There is the death of Senator Kennedy. He did allot to help so many other people who were having major problems in their lives. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Compared to other well known people who have passed on they certainly got him in the ground fast. It was the usual amount of time from death to burial. Unlike someone who died what two months ago and has still not been planted yet. It's just his shell, he's not there any more. There is the finding of the girl who was kidnapped 18 years ago. It is so hard to imagine what she went through I would not know what to say. For her and the two children she had because of this sick person, to live that long in this back yard is so hard for me to imagine. And for no one to make a fuss about the way the yard looked was something I can't understand. There is always some nosy neighbor who will always complain. I think I would have b

Pondering Health Care

Who's tired of the debates over health care? Me, for one. I look at it this way, it will not matter if the government gets into health care or not. Why? I don't see it being any different then what we get now. Thanks to insurance companies and the heath care industry they've already put a price on human life. So what's one more getting into it. You can't deny that they have put a price on our lives. I know of this one young man who has been diagnosed with leukemia and his insurance company promptly dropped him. He must not be worth anything. Not enough profit in him. Why does everything in life always have to be profited by someone somewhere? And the price of the littlest things on a medical bill, is highway robbery. You pay all this money into insurance companies and as soon as you have a big problem they find ways to not pay for everything or drop you all together. When it comes to going to the doctor for little things you almost have to take a loan out. I thi

Classes in Life

Yesterday I was talking to the youngest one about different things. I'm not sure exactly how we got on this one subject but I think it was something people should really think about. We got on the subject of what we learn in school and how much of those things we use after school. Also why they don't teach more things that are more helpful once you get out of school. What I mean is that allot of kids do not have the slightest idea how they are going to support themselves. Allot of kids do not have any clue on how much it really takes to be a success at not getting into financial binds. Not only do allot have problems with money but they can't seam to do anything for themselves without allot of help from others who are really having a hard time taking care of themselves. Some people will say that those kinds of lessons should be learned at home. I ask how can they learn when their parents never got a clue on how to do things better. Most of them are so wrapped up in their pr

Summer and Bears

I think summer has finally arrived here. Yesterday it was in the 80's and hot and humid. Today is suppose to be the same. There were also rain showers and tornado watches. It's almost like the growing season is a month behind. Somethings in the garden are just now starting grow the way they should be. Like some gourd plants that are really left over last year. They just sprang up so I let them grow. But the corn is still short. And the peas are finally getting peas in their pods. But according to the farmers almanac we are suppose to get snow next month. Everything I think got a late start. Even the wild turkeys. Some of the ones I've seen have some pretty small babies for this time of year. I think the reason for this is because if they had eggs earlier they might of froze from the late frost we got, so they had to start over. People keep seeing allot of bears around the neighborhood. The husband, a couple of times has seen one that he thinks could weigh over 400 pounds. W

Pondering Prayer and the Weather

I'm trying to figure out what to ponder that has not been pondered lately. Not having much luck right now. But lets see.... There is the case over Wausau way where the trail for the father of an 11 year old girl who died from untreated diabetes just got over with. He was found guilty. The wife was found guilty back in May. They could both get 25 years. In this day and age here in the US it's hard to believe people still believe that prayer alone can fix things. I have nothing against prayer but we do have the knowledge to fix things medically. If we were not meant to have this knowledge we would not have it. It's there, so use it. Prayer can give an added energy boost to help healing but it alone will not fix things like diabetes. Having a medical problem does not mean you have sinned and are being punished by God for it. Things happen because somethings happen not because you did something wrong. There is a person I work with that has a belief that cancer comes from having

Why now?

Why does it seam like all of a sudden so many schemes are coming to light lately? Think about it. Allot of the banking cons that have been out there have finally come to a peak. And also the group of people from New Jersey. They where all top ranking people in the community. I guess power really does go to your head. I guess when one thing that keeps things running fails, everything else behind it gets messed up too. When did all this start? I'm not sure we will ever really know the exact time but there are lots of thing to blame it on. Here are some of mine. When Bush number 2 took office. Or maybe it was number 1. They both were mistakes of office. Maybe it started even earlier then that. Like when Regan was in office. I never liked that guy no matter what so many other people thought. Maybe it's not politicians, maybe it's something kind of different. Like just plain human nature to screw other people over so they can look more superior. To always have someone to domina

Chickens in puberty

Image
The chickens look grown up but they're not. They have all of their feathers but the hens are not old enough to lay eggs yet. How can you tell if a chicken is in puberty? You should hear the roosters try to crow. It starts out fine but halfway through they sound like someone is trying to ring their neck. I wanted to try to get a recording of their attempts but they were kind of shy when I was taking their pictures and apparently didn't want to show off if front of me. They have been some mornings, when I'm leaving for work, already trying to crow. I leave at about 5am. It's only barely starting to get light out. But now the sun is rising later so maybe they are crowing at the yard light. This one here is a bantam rooster. He was the first one to try and start crowing. He's not quite there yet but give him a little time and he will have it perfected. We refer to him as Boss Hog. He likes to boss the other chickens and turkeys around. This is two of the three turkeys.

Tribute to those that have moved on

I was thinking today about all the well known people that have left us in the last few weeks. I know of six. As I was thinking about them I came up with an odd kind of link. The first one to leave was Ed McMan. He was as everyone knows an announcer or partner to Johnny Carson. Well, I see him moving on to announce the arrival of the others that would soon be joining him. The first to arrive was Farrah, an earth angel. After a long hard fought battle with cancer it was time to be a real angel. Now some people will say that when she got up there she was granted one wish. She wished that all children be safe. With this said Michael Jackson was the next to arrive. I'm not sure about this reason. I just like to believe that it was just time for his spirit to rest. He did more in one life time to change somethings then allot of people could ever think of attempting. The next to arrive was Billy Mays. A pitchman who tried to sell everything. Maybe he will be Michael Jackson's prom

Weekend at House on the Rocks

Image
This last weekend the husband and I along with the youngest one spent the weekend down in Spring Green. We were going to go to House on the Rocks. We were very lucky to find a motel room for the night. If you are wondering what House on the rocks is well, it's a house that was built on top of rocks back in the fifties by a man named Alex Jordan. It open to the public in 1960. It's an amazing place. The most amazing room in the Infinity Room which project about 218 feet out. It contains over 3000 windows. At almost the end is a place where you can look down to the floor of the woods below. He also enjoyed collecting things. It's a collection of collections. In 1968 the next part opened called the Millhouse. Collections included dolls, mechanical banks, paperweights, guns (some looked very strange), things that play all kinds of music plays in different areas. By putting a special token or two in different boxes you could play these different kinds of music. The next part o

Pondering Michael Jackson and Farrah

After I got home from work today I heard about the death of Farrah. I knew she had been battling cancer for a few years. She gave one of the bravest battles I think she could. She fought till the very end. We all know she had an amazing career as an actress. She had a one of kind smile. And hair that seam to stand the test of time. She will be missed by everyone. My heart goes out to her son and Ryan O'Neil. The sad part about her going is that her death will be shoved into the background because of Michael Jackson also dieing. I knew he would die at a young age because of the strange things he did to his body over the years. Like everyone else I grew up listening to his music. I enjoyed the cartoon that was done about The Jackson Five. That is when I knew he loved animals like I did. But the sad part is the older he got the more lost he became. He made so many bad chooses. Including all the things he did to change his body. We will never know for sure what really drove him to do t

Baby Phoebe update

Image
I decided to take a picture of the baby Phoebe's. As you can see there are four. I'm guessing that by this time tomorrow they might all have flown away, maybe. It's about 90 here right now. Watching them they look like they are trying to push each other off. The weather here has gotten very hot. Too hot for me. Yesterday we got over two inches of rain in a short period of time. I was at work and did not know this until I got home. In a small village not far from here they got over 9 inches of rain in just a very short time. The one thing they keep saying is it's going to rain every other day. There is a chance of rain tonight, I think. Thought of the day: "If uncertain of the wisdom of an action, don't!"

Boring things

It's Summer Time! I will spend this first day of summer at home doing the usual house and yard stuff. The husband will be baling hay. I'll more then likely take him somewhere to eat for Fathers Day after wards if he is not to tired from baling hay. That's my day in a nut shell. Nothing exciting. Yesterday morning the husband and I went for a three mile walk around the block. Saw allot of squished critters on the road. Like snakes, birds, one rabbit, one turtle and one snapping turtle dead on the side of the road. We scared one momma turkey and about five babies. The babies flew in every which direction while the momma ran across the field. I know boring. Momma Phoebe has three babies in the nest. Boy are they growing fast. I suppose that before the end of the week they will be big enough to fly away. I want to try and maybe get a picture of them sitting by their nest before they do fly away. I just wonder if she will have a second batch and if she does will she use the sam

Birds and other Ponderings

It's a quiet Sunday Morning as usual. I'm up a little earlier then I wanted to be because the husband was starting to snore a little to loud for me to continue to sleep peacefully. Anyway nothing exciting has been happening around here. Here are a few bird updates: Mama Phoebe Bird has hatched her nest. I have not looked to see how many but I know there is at least one. I'm trying not to disturb her to much, she could become an attack bird if she feels that I'm threatening her nest. A number of the Robin nests have already hatched out and the babies flown away. At least one is on her second batch of babies. Our baby chicks are doing very well. The husband even got a few more the other day. Now when he has time he has to make a pen for them to go outside. Right now he is starting to bale hay now that the weather if finally warming up and hopefully it will not rain for a few days till he can get some off and sell it to people who are waiting for it. Here are few things I&

Bear News

Last year I showed pictures of what a bear can do to a corn field well, the tales continue. It looks like there are at least three bears in the neighborhood. A big one on this side of the road. At least that is where it is always seen. There are two different size ones that have been seen on the other side of the road. They keep taking down and destroying bird feeders. The smaller of the two last Friday at about 4:30 pm was in a neighbors yard and as she watched it, it started heading to a workshop where her husband does wielding. It almost went into the shed but did not. This smaller bear is going to be in allot of trouble because right now it does not seam very afraid of people. When someone tries to yell at it to make it run away it just kind of slowly looks at the person and very slowly starts to walk away as if to say "All right I'll go, for now. But I'll be back soon to finish what I started." The other night I guess the neighbor to the north at me shot a coupl

Pondering 2100

I watched a show last night on ABC about what things could happen from now until 2100. It was a story that followed a woman born I think on June 2 2009 or sometime like that. It could serve as a wake up call for allot of people. Allot of those things will happen at some point but when is a mystery. I think one thing that could help, is if the human race as a whole would admit that there are too many people on this little planet. We are using it up at a pace that the Earth can not handle. We are no different then other animals. When there are too many of them in some areas at some point they get sick and allot die. Eventually their numbers do come back but then the cycle just keeps repeating itself over and over again. Some people do live by the belief "Be fruitful and multiply". I ask to what point? When some people can not have babies maybe it's natures way of saying there are to many people and I choose you not to reproduce. I know it's hard to except but who ever
