Old Letters and Pictures

Image
I know I've talked about all the old letters I have from the 1920's that were written to grandpa. I thought I'd show exactly how many there really are.  I separated them by person and as you can see their are at least 26 bunches. One has holiday cards and other mis. things. One bunch is just single letters from different people. (mostly women)  These are the old pictures I have. I've divided them into different groups also.  Most of the pictures I'm not sure who is in them.  This picture I think might be from Sweden. At the bottom it says: Lofva Herren min sjall ( there should be two dots above the a. I'm not sure how to put them in.) I think the picture might be from the 1890's. If I can scan it sometime I'll put a better picture of it on here.    This is one of many old pictures. I'll scan it in better next time.           This is an award my grandma got in 1921.           I've also got m...

A letter to Howard

Image
I decided it was time to start posting some of the old letters that were sent to my grandpa in 1919 and 1920's. I decided to post this one because I was able to match it with one of the old pictures that I have . On the back is written Chicago girls. One of girls is Theresa Billy Lambert. Another girl is Kathrine Shirley Clary. Both of these girls wrote to my Grandpa starting in 1919 to about 1924. The others in the picture are two sisters and a brother to Theresa. I'm not sure exactly how old they were in this picture but I think they might have been 17 or 18. So here is the letter that was sent on Oct 19, 1919: Dear Howard:       I am answering your letter which I received several days ago. Just as usual, Chicago is still exciting as ever. It is pretty cold out here, how is the weather out there? Will you please make or send me a few of those pictures we had taken on the small pile of hay that time. You know where Kathryn, my sisters, my brother and mysel...

Pictures From the past

Image
:     Pictures from the past I thought it was time I post some of the old pictures I keep talking about. These were taken in the late 1910's and early 1920's.  In the picture above I think it's my Grandpa holding the bottle. Remember this was more then likely during prohibition. In the picture below, I'm not sure who they are.  But any way I think someone was saying, "Ready, aim, fire!"                                                                                                                                                            ...

Old Pictures

Image
When my family and I were going through the old pictures and letters a couple of weeks ago I took a couple of the pictures. The one of the woman is my Grandmother when she was young in the 20's, I think. The one above, I'm not sure what it is. I think it might be Swedish written below but I'm not sure. I could be Finnish.I don't know who any of the people are or where it was taken but I just wanted to share. I plan on getting as many of the old pictures I can and hopefully posting them here from time to time. Most of them I have no idea who they are. My Dad knows a few but not all. It's always interesting seeing these kind of things from the past. Reading those old letters I'm learning things about my grandpa that I never knew. I just wish my aunt, when my grandma died, would not have put the letters from my grandma to grandpa before they were married, in her casket when she died. We will never know what was on them.
