It's July 2016!

I know if anyone is following me, I'm sorry I'm late with this post. I was out of town yesterday so I'll post something now. First I will share a couple of pictures I took on Friday. We were up north of here at Minocqua. These were taken at the "Wildwood Wild Life Park. They are always changing things. They are adding an area that will  have more animals from Africa. It is a very family friendly place. There are a number of goats that are running around in the one area. And some deer that are running around in another. And as you can see there also a number of turtles running around. And you can see having fun with one another. After seeing that I know why there were so many smaller turtles in different pens.  And this black bear was just chillin' out, maybe after one to many bear sodas. You can feed this bear or another bear a bottle of soda that you can buy from a machine especially for them.  If you find yourself up north you should check out Mi...

Turkey Hunting Tale.

Image
For the last three years the husband has been into turkey hunting and each year has proven to be an adventure in itself. Turkey hunting is divided into different weeks. This week the husband had his turn. He thought for sure it was going to be a bust. He kept trying to use his turkey calls hoping to get a tom to answer or even come in. But it was not working. If anything the call would make the bird run away as fast as possible. His first day was Wednesday. He got out of bed just after I left for work hoping to get out early and get one coming out of the woods. He set his blind set up a few days ago in a field behind one of his brothers. He tried sitting in it but it did not feel right. He tried sitting outside of it till he lost his patents. His brother later told him that not five minutes after he left the turkeys were on the field. He decided to try again around five that night. He went out in the same field, nothing. It was getting dark so he decided to take a walk in the woods beh...

How you know you have a bear

My husband and I took a walk in the back woods on Labor Day. We walked around the corn field next to the woods and this is what we saw. Actually we were out there twice. The first time we went out there is when we found the damage to the corn. My husband was a little nervous after we found the spots. He wished he had brought his pistol with just in case a bear would show up. We went back out there later so he could put up a trail camera. This time he had his pistol with him. We didn't see any bear but we chased a few turkeys around the woods. Sorry no picks of the turkeys. They're quick buggers. I wanted to get some pictures of some turkeys that keep coming into the yard, but they are very jumpy. Every time I try to get a picture they seam to know it and start heading away as fast as they can. But when I can I will post it. Friday if all goes well with my husband getting a shot in his back, we will be heading to the west. Hopefully we will be able to explore Montana for a wee...

Turkey Update and The Bear

It's the day after the fourth and I hope all had a good time. For me it was just another day except I didn't have to work yesterday. My husband was baling hay all day. He will be baling hay today also and plans on resting tomorrow. Our shed is almost full of hay and he still has a couple of fields to go. This year he might even get a second a crop and if he does I'm not sure where he will put it. The pictures of the turkeys from the last post, when I showed them to my husband he said they were Jakes not hens. He said the flight feathers were gray and that is a sign of a tom. I haven't seen them in the yard again so far. Up by the family cabin my parents and a niece were up there. At one point my dad who was outside by the fire pit, told my mom and niece to look out the back window. Out by a spot where they scatter a little corn for the deer was a young bear cub. It was a baby from last year they think. It wasn't real small but it wasn't very big either. My niece...
