Bird news and other ponderings

It's a bright sunny Sunday morning with a temp of about 40 degrees right now. Here it is almost June and it's still freezing in some areas. But everything is nice and green. This week it will be around 70 for a high all week. In bird news, momma Phoebe is sitting on her nest right now. We have found at least four robins nest with some of the babies almost ready to fly and others not yet hatched out. Two more bird nest on the chicken coop and one little bird building a nest in a bush next to the house in front of the living room window. As for my baby chickens, they are in their ugliest stage. You know where they have half their regular feathers and half they baby feathers. One of these day maybe we will have to take a ride out and see the eagles nest again and see how they are doing. Lately the media has been focusing allot on the people from John and Kate plus Eight. Why now? It seams like if one group is pointing out something then others have to jump on the band wagon and tr

Just thoughts

I was wrong about momma Phoebe bird she is on her nest. I'm trying not to disturb her to much. She does not seam to be bothered when we open and close the door or if we sit on the other side of the deck. So I will leave her alone in this time of incubation. As for the play I auditioned for, not going to happen. I guess this town is to busy to bother with that sort of thing during the summer. In this town people live here and work here but would rather spend time somewhere else in their free time. No one wants to invest in this town unless it involves drinking. Oh well enough about how boring this place is. The wood ticks are still out in force. Last weekend I had two on me. One I found right away the other I found the next day just attached to my neck. It was a regular wood tick and not the one that carries Lyme. Yesterday me and the girls went up the family cabin where my parents and brother were staying for the weekend. I didn't get one but my dad had about five of them on hi

Bird update and a little ranting

I was going to write this last weekend but I was kind of busy with other things. The update on the Phoebe bird is I think she changed her mind about living there once she had the nest complete. She saw how much we open and close the patio door and decided to go somewhere else. There are a number of different birds that have nests on our land. Like two robins have built nests. One in the shed we store most of our hay and and other has one on a door on the barn. Other birds have built nest on our little chicken coop. One on each side. Speaking of chickens we now have twelve baby chickens and three baby turkeys. They are little over a week old or so. They do have a lot of feathers already. Right now the chickens are bigger then the turkeys. I wonder how long it will be before they are bigger. It will awhile before we will get fresh eggs or know how many are hens and how many are roosters. I recently auditioned for the next play we are putting on. I'm not sure if I got the part yet

Phoebe Bird

It's Saturday morning and I'm a little sore. Why do you ask? I spent yesterday weeding out a patch of strawberries we planted last year. I'm sorry to say last year I did not take very good care of it. But this year will be different. I hope. The reason I was able to spend yesterday doing that is because I didn't have to work. It was voluntary and I was not needed. I did get a little bit of a sun burn on part of my arms and my hand is a little sore from holding the digger I had to loosen the soil. I know that was boring. The only other thing that is happening here is that a bird is trying to build a nest under the eves of the deck. I think it is an Eastern Phoebe. I'm hoping it will change it's mind when it relies how much we open the door or spend time on the deck when it's nice outside. I was just trying to take a picture of the bird working on it's nest. I tried to edit but it did not work so I just posted as is. If you can't tell where it is it

Turkey Hunting Tale.

Image
For the last three years the husband has been into turkey hunting and each year has proven to be an adventure in itself. Turkey hunting is divided into different weeks. This week the husband had his turn. He thought for sure it was going to be a bust. He kept trying to use his turkey calls hoping to get a tom to answer or even come in. But it was not working. If anything the call would make the bird run away as fast as possible. His first day was Wednesday. He got out of bed just after I left for work hoping to get out early and get one coming out of the woods. He set his blind set up a few days ago in a field behind one of his brothers. He tried sitting in it but it did not feel right. He tried sitting outside of it till he lost his patents. His brother later told him that not five minutes after he left the turkeys were on the field. He decided to try again around five that night. He went out in the same field, nothing. It was getting dark so he decided to take a walk in the woods beh
