Hunting Tale

It's that time of the year, again. The start of the hunting seasons. The husband is a bow hunter, for deer that is. Every year he has some tale to tell about one that got away. This year is no different. There are usually many over all the seasons he hunts in. The first one just happened last night. He had been up in his tree stand and off in the distance he saw a deer, but he forgot the binoculars so he could not tell what it was. Well, as it started to get to dark to see right he climbed down from his tree stand and headed for the four wheeler. Along the path he drove, he went by a kind of a low spot that was not suppose to have anything that was dark looking in it. He stopped trying to figure out what it was. He thought bear. So for some reason he decided to start growling at it. It didn't move. He starting waving his arms while he growled at it. It didn't move. He tried to get louder at the growling while he waved his arms. Suddenly it slowly moved. It was a buck. A h...

Our Trip up North

Image
Last week the husband and I went up north for a few days. Up north I mean to the upper peninsula of Michigan. We went to places like St. Ignace where we climbed Castle rock. It is on the north side of the bridge. This is view from the top over looking the bay. We then headed up to Sault Ste. Marie where we watched some big ships go through the locks. I forgot the camera at the motel. We would have loved to go into Canada but no pass ports. So we just looked across the locks into Canada. Some day I will get a pass port and be able to so I can say bin there done that. Another thing we went to was Oswalds Bear Ranch. It's the only bear ranch of it's kind in the US. They take in bears that have been rescued I think they were all cubs when they first arrive. There are about 29 there right now.  You can get your picture taken with a cub. There are two there right now. These bears are given the chance when it's around winter time to leave if they want but I think most stay. ...

Weekend ramblings

Sitting here on a nice quiet Saturday morning looking out the patio door, I was watching the mist that was hanging over the field slowly start to lift when the oldest one came upstairs and headed for the bathroom. She is usually not up this early because she works nights but her and the boy friend are going to a race today and she in a way does not want to go because it involves camping. She is not a camper. She wants to only sleep in her own bed and she hates the possibility of bugs. She is trying to find away to get out of it or take my car so she can leave when she wants to. But I need my car for the weekend. I told her she should have been honest to the boy, and said she didn't want to camp. It's only a couple of hours before he gets here to pick her up so we'll see what kind of excuse she can come up with to not camp. It's looking like it's going to be a nice weekend around here. Lots of sun, temps in the 70's. Today I will be heading up to the family ca...

Pondering Kennedy and Kidnapping plus other things

Image
I've been pondering what exactly to ponder. There are so many things to ponder. There is the death of Senator Kennedy. He did allot to help so many other people who were having major problems in their lives. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Compared to other well known people who have passed on they certainly got him in the ground fast. It was the usual amount of time from death to burial. Unlike someone who died what two months ago and has still not been planted yet. It's just his shell, he's not there any more. There is the finding of the girl who was kidnapped 18 years ago. It is so hard to imagine what she went through I would not know what to say. For her and the two children she had because of this sick person, to live that long in this back yard is so hard for me to imagine. And for no one to make a fuss about the way the yard looked was something I can't understand. There is always some nosy neighbor who will always complain. I think I would have b...

Pondering Health Care

Who's tired of the debates over health care? Me, for one. I look at it this way, it will not matter if the government gets into health care or not. Why? I don't see it being any different then what we get now. Thanks to insurance companies and the heath care industry they've already put a price on human life. So what's one more getting into it. You can't deny that they have put a price on our lives. I know of this one young man who has been diagnosed with leukemia and his insurance company promptly dropped him. He must not be worth anything. Not enough profit in him. Why does everything in life always have to be profited by someone somewhere? And the price of the littlest things on a medical bill, is highway robbery. You pay all this money into insurance companies and as soon as you have a big problem they find ways to not pay for everything or drop you all together. When it comes to going to the doctor for little things you almost have to take a loan out. I thi...

Classes in Life

Yesterday I was talking to the youngest one about different things. I'm not sure exactly how we got on this one subject but I think it was something people should really think about. We got on the subject of what we learn in school and how much of those things we use after school. Also why they don't teach more things that are more helpful once you get out of school. What I mean is that allot of kids do not have the slightest idea how they are going to support themselves. Allot of kids do not have any clue on how much it really takes to be a success at not getting into financial binds. Not only do allot have problems with money but they can't seam to do anything for themselves without allot of help from others who are really having a hard time taking care of themselves. Some people will say that those kinds of lessons should be learned at home. I ask how can they learn when their parents never got a clue on how to do things better. Most of them are so wrapped up in their pr...

Summer and Bears

I think summer has finally arrived here. Yesterday it was in the 80's and hot and humid. Today is suppose to be the same. There were also rain showers and tornado watches. It's almost like the growing season is a month behind. Somethings in the garden are just now starting grow the way they should be. Like some gourd plants that are really left over last year. They just sprang up so I let them grow. But the corn is still short. And the peas are finally getting peas in their pods. But according to the farmers almanac we are suppose to get snow next month. Everything I think got a late start. Even the wild turkeys. Some of the ones I've seen have some pretty small babies for this time of year. I think the reason for this is because if they had eggs earlier they might of froze from the late frost we got, so they had to start over. People keep seeing allot of bears around the neighborhood. The husband, a couple of times has seen one that he thinks could weigh over 400 pounds. W...
