Land Of The Twisted

Have you ever heard of the Land of The Twisted? It's a place were everything we know is twisted. Everything old is new and everything new is old. Technology is going backwards (sometimes I feel this is not a bad thing). Trees are all twisted together. Nothing grows straight up. Some buildings look like twisted ice cream cones. While others looked like they were laying on their side, which means to go to the next room you had to climb a ladder to get to it. If you wanted to go to the next floor you take an elevator that goes sideways.
You should see the animals. You should see the cowlephant. It's as big as an elephant but looks like a cow. Then there is the drog. It looks like a cross between a dog and a frog. It's really a dog that's hops around like a frog. Boy can they hop. If you asked one to speak it would sound like a regular bark a croak at the end. Then there is the cawl. It's an owl with the head of a cat. It flies silently through the trees and calls out mewho. It's very friendly. It loves to get scratched behind the ears. They are known to swoop down suddenly and try to land on your shoulder and start purring very loudly in your ear. There is also a Hormel. A has the head, tail and legs of a horse with the hump of a camel.
In the Land of the Twisted if you wanted to have a conversation with someone it can get kind of complicated. Say Granny Twist wanted her beloved granddaughter number one, Lowla, to invite her to tea. First she would tell Bender that she thought Lowla had a wonderful tea set. Then Bender would tell Cutsy that Granny told him that she thought Lowla had a wonderful tea set to serve the best tasting tea in. Cutsy would tell Prissy that Bender told her that Granny said Lowla had a wonderful tea set to serve the best tasting tea in while sitting in her twisted sitting room. Prissy would then tell Lowla that Cutsy told her that Bender said Granny wanted to come see her wonderful tea set in which she served the best tasting tea in while sitting in her twisted sitting room. Lowla will then call Granny and tell her she was going to have tea in the wonderful tea set she had given her, and would she like to come over and join her.
But more often then not, by the time the message gets to the intended person, they thought the opposite was being told to them. Lowla could think Granny was telling her she wished she had never given her the tea set and Lowla would smash the tea set to pieces and send it back to Granny Twist.
So you can imagine the feuds that are always happening there because of their strange way to talk to one another.
There is one person who lives there that would like to change things. Her name is April May June. She is eleven years old. She is so tired of everyone being mad at one another because no one wants to talk directly to each other. She is looking for someone to help, but who.
She often wanted to talk to Sarah Jones. She owns a shop called the Straight and Narrow. But her parents forbid her to talk to Sarah. They say it's strange talking to her because she gets right to the point and asks a question directly to you.
But April can't understand if Sarah Jones is so bad, why do so many people visit her shop? Her parents just tell her it just a novelty shop and people sometimes collect none twisted things.
April would often watch Sarah Jones. She wanted to talk to her so badly but every time she tried someone would stop her. She often found herself following Sarah Jones when she went for a walk. She noticed that a few times a week she would take her Hormel and cart and head into a part of the woods her parents told her never to go to. When she came back her cart was full of strange looking things. When she asked her parents about the woods they would eventually tell her it's no place for a good Twisted little girl to be.
April knew that one day soon she was going to follow Sarah and find out where she goes to get all the strange things she sells.

I've been thinking about this story for a long time and thought maybe I was trying to start it from the wrong spot. I'd like it very much to hear from people if they think that it has any potential. It needs a lot of fine tuning, I know this . But this is only one of many beginning. Things change, ideas change.

Thought of the day:

"Being equal does not mean you have to be the same."
