A letter to Howard

Image
I decided it was time to start posting some of the old letters that were sent to my grandpa in 1919 and 1920's. I decided to post this one because I was able to match it with one of the old pictures that I have . On the back is written Chicago girls. One of girls is Theresa Billy Lambert. Another girl is Kathrine Shirley Clary. Both of these girls wrote to my Grandpa starting in 1919 to about 1924. The others in the picture are two sisters and a brother to Theresa. I'm not sure exactly how old they were in this picture but I think they might have been 17 or 18. So here is the letter that was sent on Oct 19, 1919: Dear Howard:       I am answering your letter which I received several days ago. Just as usual, Chicago is still exciting as ever. It is pretty cold out here, how is the weather out there? Will you please make or send me a few of those pictures we had taken on the small pile of hay that time. You know where Kathryn, my sisters, my brother and mysel...

Pondering the Volcano and other things

It's another quiet Sunday morning here and I am up a little later then last time. It's already light out. I don't see the sun itself yet but it won't be long. I have been watching the news about the volcano that's spewing ash all over Europe. What a mess. I wonder how long it will doing that? I think last time it spewed it did it for 13 months. Can you imagine it spewing for over a year disrupting air travel? All the things that will get messed up. To sum it up, the whole world economy. No planes in the sky. People will have to travel by bus or boat or car. The weather will get more messed up. Breathing for some people, if not most people, will be harder. We will be dusting ash off everything. I think some people think that we as humans should be able to find a way to control it. What I mean is that there will be people complaining to governments about it making it sound like they should stop it.Well, they will know it's not possible to stop a volcano from eru...

Sunday Morning thoughts

Another quiet Sunday morning waiting for the sun to come up. I wish I could sleep longer on the weekends but no matter what I'm up before the sun. Yesterday I had to dog sit for the youngest while she was spending the day with friends, so it was a kind of quiet day, considering I had two dogs running around the house. We found out that of our three turkey's one is a tom. We found this out when a wild tom showed up and started strutting around the pen. Our tom tried to fan out but the bigger tom out fanned him. The first day he strutted outside the pen our turkeys would mostly just lie down but after a day they just started to ignore the bigger tom. I was going to get a picture of the big guy but thought he would stick around longer, so no picture. But if he does show up again I will have my camera handy, just in case. Now that I know we have two hens and one tom I have to think of names for them. Maybe I'll call them Jack, Chrissy and Janet. But that's still up in th...

Stupid is taking over

It's been one of those weeks where I'm not sure what to write. So much has been happening I'm not sure what to ponder. One thing I could ponder about is how stupid seems to be the thing more and more people are leading their lives by. Like the group of people who wanted to start a war with the police. They call themselves a christian militia. Religion has nothing to do with killing people in the way they wanted to it. I guess I don't understand those kind of people. But what I would like to say to other groups like them is this: If you are planning to do something like this group, you have to know it will not work in the way you want it to. It never does. So think of a different way to change things for yourself. Killing is not the way to go. Harm none. Things take time to change. Respect goes along way both ways. Bullying was in the news again. Something tells me these people were never taught respect or self control. I know what it's like to be bullied. I had ...

Pondering the week

It was a very nice week around here. The temps were in the high fifty's and into the 60's, until yesterday. It was about 31 degrees. And I thought I was done with my winter coat. As for my work at work, I had a week where I felt everyone had to pick my brain about something. So I guess you can say my brain got a great workout. I did do allot of pondering during the week about all kinds of things. Want to read them? Well if your happen to be here you must want to read something, so here goes: Politicians, now they know how to ponder things. But I think they ponder things way to much. Health care for one. At the way things are going the only ones who will be able to have any health care will be the elite. No one else will be able to afford it. With a price on your life and the fact that so many people are  losing their jobs. No profit no help. How did we get to this point? They say life is precious, but they make it impossible to maintain it. Some think the only way to live...

Pictures From the past

Image
:     Pictures from the past I thought it was time I post some of the old pictures I keep talking about. These were taken in the late 1910's and early 1920's.  In the picture above I think it's my Grandpa holding the bottle. Remember this was more then likely during prohibition. In the picture below, I'm not sure who they are.  But any way I think someone was saying, "Ready, aim, fire!"                                                                                                                                                            ...

Chooses we make

It's another quiet day in the North woods. The husband had no problem with the shot he had to get. So all is fine here. Other places are another story. It's seams kind of weird that the east coast is getting so many snow storms and here we might get a dusting or a couple of inches. This week we are suppose to be in the thirties. I do want the snow to be gone because I'm tired of seeing white when I look outside. I want to see green grass and green trees. But I guess we can wish whatever we want Mother nature still has the final say in everything.  I asked a few people at work if they had any pondering questions, they didn't. Just the same old  things are being said about the same things with the same people doing the same dumb things. So many people keep doing the same things over and over again with the same results and they can't figure out why things never change. They are stuck on the same path and have no real desire to venture off onto a new one. Fear of c...
