Land Of The Twisted

Have you ever heard of the Land of The Twisted? It's a place were everything we know is twisted. Everything old is new and everything new is old. Technology is going backwards (sometimes I feel this is not a bad thing). Trees are all twisted together. Nothing grows straight up. Some buildings look like twisted ice cream cones. While others looked like they were laying on their side, which means to go to the next room you had to climb a ladder to get to it. If you wanted to go to the next floor you take an elevator that goes sideways. You should see the animals. You should see the cowlephant. It's as big as an elephant but looks like a cow. Then there is the drog. It looks like a cross between a dog and a frog. It's really a dog that's hops around like a frog. Boy can they hop. If you asked one to speak it would sound like a regular bark a croak at the end. Then there is the cawl. It's an owl with the head of a cat. It flies silently through the trees and calls ou...

Sunday updates

I was going to write yesterday but we had a small graduation party for my youngest one. She graduated back in May from the Tech in Wausau as an administrative assistant. She is lucky and already has a good job. The reason we waited so long to have the party was June was a very busy month with other parties, birthdays(mine included) and my husband making hay. He has about 30 more acres to bail yet, although the shed is almost full of hay. Anyway the party was small not a whole lot of people which means I have more food left over then I thought I would. The good thing is I won't have to do much cooking at all this week. Which is also a good thing because I'm involved with the theater which is preforming the play A year with Frog and Toad this week. I'm charge of the back stage. I'm also on vacation this week. I might write more this week I might not, it all depends on if I have anything to say about anything that's been going on. One bit of local news, is a weird thi...

Turkey Update and The Bear

It's the day after the fourth and I hope all had a good time. For me it was just another day except I didn't have to work yesterday. My husband was baling hay all day. He will be baling hay today also and plans on resting tomorrow. Our shed is almost full of hay and he still has a couple of fields to go. This year he might even get a second a crop and if he does I'm not sure where he will put it. The pictures of the turkeys from the last post, when I showed them to my husband he said they were Jakes not hens. He said the flight feathers were gray and that is a sign of a tom. I haven't seen them in the yard again so far. Up by the family cabin my parents and a niece were up there. At one point my dad who was outside by the fire pit, told my mom and niece to look out the back window. Out by a spot where they scatter a little corn for the deer was a young bear cub. It was a baby from last year they think. It wasn't real small but it wasn't very big either. My niece...

Turkey Invasion

Image
This morning I was getting my tea ready when I looked out the window and this is what I saw. They walked around the yard. Even the front yard where our outside dog is. I wanted to get a picture of them walking right by his doghouse but I couldn't get a good shot. I was ready for him to come charging out of his house, but all he did was when they were out his reach was poke his nose out of his house and watch them walk away. I had to be very careful in the house at this time because Fawn was wondering what I was looking at. If she would have seen them there would have been a whole lot of barking, whining, yipping and" Shhhh be quiet!!" going on. Then my husband would have come out of the bedroom yelling trying to tell me to keep her quiet. But that didn't happen. Peace remained in the household. As far as I could tell these were both hens, no beards. I just wonder if they have any eggs somewhere close by. I would love to see a bunch of babies running around. If there i...

The Moth

Image
On Sunday afternoon my husband was going to finish up the front deck, it just needs to be stained now, he called me to come outside he had to show me something. Once I got outside he told me to look on the other side of the bush on the front of the deck. This is what I saw. It stayed there all day. It rained off and on all afternoon but it never moved. It was gone the next day. Someone at work told me it's called a Cecropia moth. I'm not sure if this is spelled right. I showed it to my oldest one when she got out of bed that day and all she could say is "I hate bugs." and went back into the house. I seen another one a number of years ago. In this same tree at the top a pair of small birds has a nest with babies in it. They were not to happy with my husband while he was working on the deck. Thought for the day: "Remember, e-mail communication is about as secure as skywriting."

Sunday morning with Me

It's Sunday morning. I was not in the mood for writing yesterday so I'm making up for it today. Yesterday I went for a nice quiet walk alone. I walked maybe about 2 miles . I enjoy that time of the morning when the sky is so blue and no one else is really out and about. My brother-in-law is but he's busy with his farm work. I get to listen to all the birds singing and watch all the different animals that are out and about. I sometimes see deer but not yesterday. I did earlier in the week. I kinda sorta hit a deer with my car. I was going down the road to go see how my husband was doing baling hay. I was headed to town to do bring a few props I found to the theater, we are doing the play A Year with Frog and Toad. I'm stage manager again. Anyway the road I was taking to head to town is a part of the road I don't take to town very often when I'm driving. I was not going to fast when all of a sudden out of the corner of my eye I saw brown out the drivers side windo...

The weekend thoughts

Another Saturday Morning. I'm writing this a little later in the morning then usual because for some reason everyone else was up at the same time I was. My oldest daughter, who just turned 23 yesterday, was still up. She's sleeping now and won't be up until 5 or 6 tonight. My husband got up when Fawn started barking and getting excited when the neighbors dog went running through the back yard. When she sees something in the yard that she thinks should not be there she becomes wild and will not listen to anyone to be quiet. She will running around the house barking, whining, growling and wanting outside so she can bark more. Then she will want inside so she can see on the other side of the house to see if she can see whatever got her so excited to begin with. Anyway my husband is sleeping on the couch right now and Fawn is sleeping in the chair. My other daughter is still sleeping or at least in her room. She did let Maggie out of her room this morning to add to the excitem...
