Trayvon, Earth Quakes and Survivor

Image
The shooting of Trayvon Martin was one that should have never happened. Do I think that the guy who shot him should be charged? Your darn right he should be. Whatever excuse he gives for doing it are not excepting in my book. If you are going to be a neighborhood watch person you should know everyone in your neighborhood. That means to meet them and to let them know who you are. That's what neighbors do. Get to know one another especially if you want to help protect one another. You don't have to get to know everything about everyone. You just need to know who each other is and be able to at least say hi to one another in passing. Simple right?  Why can't we do this simple act of kindness? Because, we are so wrapped up in ourselves and or are suspicious of one another. We are afraid to know anyone outside of our families or social groups. If I could start a movement it would be knowing who your neighbors are enough to at least say HI when you meet them on the street in

Old Postcards from way before my time

Image
I was looking through the pictures trying to decide which ones I should post first. Well I decided to start with the post cards. Here are four of them that caught my eye first. On the back of this one is written, " Part of crowds at (something) Point, Roosevelt Day and front of Teddy's car."  I'm not sure exactly what the place is. Maybe someone can help me figure out what the place is.  On the back of this one it says, "Harry (Bergland) Baily" I'm not sure who that is or exactly what year  On the back of this one it says, "B.G. Engstrom Camp Morse Wis. Late 19 teens." I think  I have the name of the town  right, but I'm not sure. This last postcard is from 1914. I'm not sure who is the picture. It says it's some kind of a course. Class at Ogema. Well that's just a sample of some of the things I will be sharing with who ever wants to look. If I post a picture of someone you know I would love to find o

Spring has sprung

Image
On March 4th this is what it looked like around here. The snow was knee deep. And now this is what it looks like. The temperature has been in the 70's. The robins are back. Along with killdeer, black birds and cranes. The frogs are also singing. The only complaint I have is the mud on the driveway.  I do so love the warmer weather. But I know Mother Nature will throw a little bit of colder weather at us before May sometime, she always does.   But while it is nice outside I can now start doing the after winter clean up and maybe start thinking about what I will plant this year. But I don't want to plant somethings to early because like I said I don't think that Mother Nature is done with the cold around here yet. Well that's about it for now. So till next time keep on pondering the pondering possibilities.

Old Letters and Pictures

Image
I know I've talked about all the old letters I have from the 1920's that were written to grandpa. I thought I'd show exactly how many there really are.  I separated them by person and as you can see their are at least 26 bunches. One has holiday cards and other mis. things. One bunch is just single letters from different people. (mostly women)  These are the old pictures I have. I've divided them into different groups also.  Most of the pictures I'm not sure who is in them.  This picture I think might be from Sweden. At the bottom it says: Lofva Herren min sjall ( there should be two dots above the a. I'm not sure how to put them in.) I think the picture might be from the 1890's. If I can scan it sometime I'll put a better picture of it on here.    This is one of many old pictures. I'll scan it in better next time.           This is an award my grandma got in 1921.           I've also got my grandpa diploma from 1913. It's a comm

Two local tragedies

Image
The first tragedies I'm thinking of happened on Sunday. The movie theater in Abbostford burned. It was a historic building in down town Abbostford. The saddest part is a firefighter was killed when the roof fell in from the weight of the snow on the roof from last weeks snow storm. His name was Jamison N. Kampmeyer. He was 34 years old. He was a volunteer firefighter for Colby plus a Sheriff deputy for Marathon County. He was an instructor at NTC. Plus a member of the S.W.A.T. team. He was married with three children, the youngest being only 4 months old. As of right now the cause of the fire is not yet known.   This UW Stevens Point student, Eric Duffy,  was reported missing Saturday Morning after he had been out celebrating his 21st birthday. He had left the bar alone to go back to where he was living. The sad part is they found his body Monday in the Wisconsin River. He was originally from Fitchburg. I wish that when people are out drinking like that, they would somehow

On more piece of news from last week

Davy Jones has passed away. I loved watching the Monkeys and listening to their music growing up. I was and still consider myself a Monkey. If you told me to choose music from today or the Monkey's, the Monkeys would win hands down every time.

Top News stories that caught my eye

Image
These are the top news stories that caught my eye this week. One is the shooting in Ohio. Another school shooting because someone was bullied. Now three young boys lives were cut short because of it. My heart goes out to the  families of these boys. As for the boy who did the shooting.....I've heard very little in the news about why he really did it. Like, he did not know these boys. Or were these boys just in the wrong place at the wrong time enjoying breakfast, and seeing happy friends was just something that he could not stand that morning. But I think he did know these boys and there was something they said or did that set him on this path. But it's still no excuse for doing what he did. Plus it sounds like he had a home life that was on the violent side. So in a way it's his families fault for what happened. I know that's a cruel statement. But when you grow up in a house where parents are always fighting in front of the kids, they start to act out at others in
